Daytime Emmy Nominees Kelly Ripa & Michael Strahan Not Attending Ceremony

After a tumultuous week, it’s hard to imagine anyone on Live with Kelly & Michael being in a celebratory mood but Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan actually have a reason to celebrate — they are nominated for best entertainment host at the Daytime Emmy Awards which will be held this weekend in Los Angeles. And they are the reigning winners in the category.

I hear there were no plans for the duo to attend the Sunday ceremony even before the dustup of the past week over the sudden announcement of Strahan’s exit for Good Morning America, which led to a walkout by Ripa. Strahan and Ripa usually don’t go to the awards show when it takes place on the West Coast and Live is not dark — which is the case next week — so they have to be in the New York studio early Monday morning. This Monday, the two will kick off their final two weeks together after Strahan’s exit date was moved up dramatically following the controversy.

Ripa and Strahan also were not on hand at last year’s Daytime Emmys in Burbank when they won the best host Emmy in their first nomination as a duo. Talk about irony and timing if they repeat as winners on Sunday…
