EXCLUSIVE: There won’t be any marathon premiere when Angie Tribeca returns for its second season on June 6, but like Season 1 there will be a ton of guest stars popping up. James Franco is back on the Rashida Jones-led cop comedy for its 10-episode Season 2, but the Oscar nominee is just one among many joining the TBS series
The comedy created by Steve Carell and Nancy Walls Carell will see Heather Graham, Mary McCormack, Noah Wyle, Maya Rudolph, Eriq La Salle, Danny Pudi, Busy Philipps, Kevin Pollak, Rhys Darby, Ed Begley Jr, Joe Jonas, and Joey McIntyre showing up in Season 2. Franco first appeared on Angie Tribeca as Sgt. Eddie Pepper in the blink-and-you’ll-miss-the-gag in ‘The Wedding Planner Did It,” the second show of the first season.
There are several other big-name guest stars planned as well and Alfred Molina will be back in his recurring role as scientist Dr. Edelweiss. Along with Jones in the LAPD detective title role, Angie Tribeca also stars Hayes MacArthur, Jere Burns, Deon Cole, Andree Vermeulen and Jagger the German shepherd with Ira Ungerleider as showrunner. The majority of the cast and Ungerleider debuted the first episode of the upcoming season on April 14 at the Paley Center in Bev. Hills.
Along with Angie, comedy seems to be paying off for TBS on Mondays. Debuting on April 11, the Jason Jones– and Samantha Bee– created The Detour is the top new comedy on cable this year among adults 18-49. The Detour easily topped the 641,000 in the key demo that previous No. 1 FX’s Baskets pulled in for its January 21 debut.
The show about family dynamics starring Jason Jones, Natalie Zea, Ashley Gerasimovich and Liam Carrollgot 892,000 among the 18-49s for its 9 PM premiere and 803, 000 viewers in the demo for its 9:30 PM episode.
In total viewers, the already-renewed The Detour had 1.6 million for its first episode and 1.4 million for its second one. Over all of TBS’s platforms and in delayed viewing The Detour has averaged around 5.3 million viewers.
