EXCLUSIVE: A passion project, Where Hands Touch is the next feature on Belle helmer Amma Asante’s dance card. I’ve learned that The Hunger Games’ Amandla Stenberg is in talks to star in the period romantic drama that will begin shooting this summer. The 1940s-set story focuses on the relationship between a mixed-race German girl and an SS officer in Berlin.
Stenberg is best known for her portrayal of Rue in the first Hunger Games and also was in Colombiana, playing the young incarnation of Zoe Saldana’s killer character.
Asante, who won a BAFTA as Most Promising Newcomer for her feature debut, A Way of Life, has been at work on Where Hands Touch for a number of years, starting on the script before 2013’s Belle, which went on to gross over $16M. She’s currently putting the finishing touches on Pathé’s A United Kingdom, which stars David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike.
Stenberg’s other credits include Sleepy Hollow and Rio 2. She’s repped by UTA.
Charlie Hanson (Extras, Life on the Road) is producing Where Hands Touch, with Pinewood Pictures financing.
