The force was with the MTV Movie Awards tonight as Star Wars: The Force Awakens took home the statue for Movie of the Year. The latest installment of the saga beat out Avengers: Age of Ultron, Creed, Deadpool, Straight Outta Compton, and Jurassic World among MTV’s viewers (obviously this ain’t the Oscars). The MTV Movie Awards were taped tonight in Burbank on the WB lot, though those of us who weren’t there will have to wait for tomorrow night at 8 PM when an edited version of the event airs on MTV. Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson cohosted.
As for the winners, Star Wars was the night’s biggest winner, also nabbing the Breakthrough Performance win for star Daisey Ridley and Best Villain for Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren. Meanwhile, Deadpool also took home two wins, for Best Comedic Performance and Best Fight. Other winners include Straight Outta Compton which won for True Story, and Charlize Theron who won Best Female Performance for Mad Max: Fury Road. Will Smith and Melissa McCarthy both received special awards.
