The news comes just days after Weiss confirmed that the upcoming fifth season of the Peabody Award-winning series would be the last. The program launched on ABC Family in 2011 with the network’s then-highest premiere ratings. The show is set in Kansas City and follows two teenagers who were switched at birth, one growing up in affluence and the other working class. The show features various deaf and hard-of-hearing actors.
No word on when, exactly, the show will return to Freeform’s schedule (Switched has been away since its Season 4 finale last October), but Weiss said today that one of the series’ recently shot episodes will leave the audience in tears — even in 2017.
