Steven Rumbelow, the British-born writer and producer whose 45-year career includes the 2005 paranormal “reality” series Beyond that’s become a staple of its genre, has died. He was 66. His February 27 death from sepsis was reported by his wife Rachel Rumbelow.
Beyond, which had a first run in Canada from 2005-07 but has made the rounds of American cable (via Comcast) and various digital platforms (currently Hulu), was developed by the writer-director for the indie Toronto production company Renegade Motion Pictures, run by the Rumbelows. More than 50 episodes were produced.
Rumbelow’s career spanned the London theater scene of the early 1970s to the present. His production company has two projects set to debut at the Cannes Film Festival in May: the supernatural The Summoning and action pic Over the Edge, both ventures with Hannover House and Medallion Releasing.
“Steven was a very talented filmmaker who touched many lives,” said Eric Parkinson, CEO of Hannover House. “The entire staff and management team of Hannover House extends our deepest condolences to Rachel and the production team at Renegade Motion Pictures.”
Among the 10 feature films directed by Rumbelow were 1976’s King Lear and the 2007 chiller The Deed (aka The Covenant).
