With The CW and ABC playing encores, except for an original 20/20 (0.9/4), the primetime game clearly belonged to CBS and its NCAA Tournament coverage. With wins by the Virginia Cavaliers and Syracuse Orange and the tourney now moving into the Final Four, the House of Moonves took Friday with a 1.6/6 rating and 5.64 million viewers.
While down 15% from Thursday’s games and 11% from the early numbers of last Friday’s NCAA dominated prime, last night’s overall rating is even among adults 18-49 with the adjusted numbers of March 18 – when CBS also topped the night against a full original line-up from ABC. Viewershipwise, CBS’ NCAA Tourney was almost even with last week in fast affiliate results and up 9% from the final numbers of March 18 – as then, expect adjustments on last night’s numbers. Compared to the second Friday of last year’s NCAA Tourney, CBS is down 16%.
CBS Renews 11 Returning Series, No Decision On 'Criminal Minds', 'CSI: Cyber' & All Freshman Shows
Over on Fox, the unsuccessful Second Chance (0.5/2) ended its sputtering run even with last week’s show. Lead-in Sleepy Hollow (0.6/2) fell 25% from its March 18 airing to hit a series low. Being that the fantasy procedural rarely sees adjustments and the double-digit drop, it is doubtful this one will escape this Friday fate.
Not really any change at all for NBC’s offerings with Caught On Camera With Nick Cannon (0.7/3) matching its result of last week in the key demo. Grimm (0.9/4) is also matching its March 18 early numbers result but that went up a tenth in the final numbers – which, if the past few weeks are any indication, could happen here. Dateline (1.0/4) was also even with last week, while rival news mag 20/20 took a 25% dive – proving, as last week’s 20/20 did, that a little Diane Sawyer can go a long way.
