Patriots Day began filming today, and Michelle Monaghan is the latest to join the cast of the pic that chronicles the events surrounding the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. She will play Carol Saunders, the wife of Sgt. Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg).
“In the aftermath of the attack, heroes appeared from every corner of Boston,” director Peter Berg said. “Michelle is a remarkable actress who knows the people of this city and understands their courage and strength.”
The pic also features John Goodman, J.K. Simmons, Jimmy O. Yang, Vince Curatola and James Colby. Bridge of Spies Oscar nominee Matt Charman penned the script. Scott Stuber, Wahlberg, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Dorothy Aufiero and Michael Radutzky are producing. CBS Films is handling production and advertising for the film, which Lionsgate will open December 21.
