EXCLUSIVE: Relativity/EuropaCorp. distribution head Kyle Davies is leaving the company and is said to be in talks with Paramount Pictures to help run distribution at the studio. Davies is exiting the company at a time when Relativity is still in trying to pull it together to meet the requirements of the Bankruptcy court, pending hard documentation of exit funding and management contracts. In light of this, we also hear that Greg Forston, exec VP at Relativity, will step into the position at left vacant by Davies.
Despite Relativity’s outcome, Forston has an active upcoming slate with Luc Besson’s RED, which is a completely separate entity from Ryan Kavanaugh’s corp. There’s the Barry Sonnenfeld comedy Nine Lives with Kevin Spacey and Christopher Walken which is coming out on Aug. 5. On Sept. 9, the Naomi Watts-Jacob Tremblay thriller Shut In opens. Also upcoming, sci-fi drama The Circle with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. Steven Quale’s Navy SEALs action pic The Lake is set for Jan. 20 next year. Undated for 2017 is John Madden’s Jessica Chastain gun lobbyist drama Miss Sloane. And of course, there’s Besson’s sci-fi spectacle Valerian which will hit theaters on July 21, 2017.
Davies has been negotiating his exit from Relativity over the past six months and CEO Kavanaugh and Red chief Besson allowed him to step out of his contract.
