Kevin Bacon is breaking out his FBI windbreaker and returning to Boston for Patriots Day, the CBS Films and Lionsgate pic about the events surrounding the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. The Following alum — who co-starred as an FBI agent in last year’s Black Mass — will play Richard DesLauriers, the Bureau’s special agent in charge, was one of the law-enforcement figures during the manhunt for the bombers who carried out the attacks on the city’s annual race.
“Richard DesLauriers worked tirelessly as one of the key figures in an impossibly sophisticated investigation, and Kevin Bacon possesses the intelligence and empathy to portray him,” director Peter Berg said.
The pic also features John Goodman, J.K. Simmons, Jimmy O. Yang, Vince Curatola and James Colby. Bridge of Spies Oscar nominee Matt Charman penned the script. Scott Stuber, Wahlberg, Hutch Parker, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Dorothy Aufiero and Michael Radutzky are producing. CBS Films is handling production and advertising for the film, which Lionsgate will open December 21.
