Julia Roberts is set to star in Fool Me Once, an adaptation of Harlan Coben’s just-published thriller. The Oscar-winning actress also will produce with her partners Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill through their Red Om Films banner.
The story centers on Maya (Roberts), a Special Ops pilot just home from war who sees something on her nannycam that she can’t understand: her 2-year-old daughter playing with Maya’s husband, Joe — who had been brutally murdered two weeks earlier. The provocative question at the heart of the mystery: Can you believe everything you see with your own eyes, even when you desperately want to?
Fool Me Once was published last week by Penguin’s Dutton imprint. Several of bestselling author Coben’s page-turner books are in various stages of development as films or TV series, including The Five, Gone for Good, Tell No One, Missing You and Six Years.
Erin Brockovich OScar winner Roberts’ recent credits include Secret in Their Eyes, August: Osage County and Mirror Mirror, and she next appears in Money Monster and the ensemble comedy Mother’s Day. She is repped by CAA, Engelman & Company and Hirsch Wallerstein. Coben is with CAA, Aaron Priest Agency and attorney Michael Gendler.
