Well, the former Secretary of State got the TGIT backing tonight of Olivia Pope, Dr. Meredith Grey and Professor Annalise Keating. In a paid 1-minute ad from Hillary Clinton’s campaign that strategically ran in ABC’s Shonda Rhimes dominated primetime on Thursday, the White House contender was called a “champion for all of us” by Scandal star Kerry Washington. Joined by Grey’s Anatomy’s Ellen Pompeo and How To Get Away With Murder’s Viola Davis plus long time Clinton supporter Rhimes herself, all proclaimed, “I’m with Hillary.”
Of course, Rhimes has long been with Hillary and the ex-First Lady even made a late night visit to the Scandal set on February 22 when she was last in town to grab some cash from the always reliable Hollywood ATM.
“This was a paid political advertisement placed on a number of stations,” said ABC after the spot ran. Clearly not wanting viewers to think this was from them during their primetime with their stars, the Disney-owned net added: “Broadcasters are required by the FCC to carry these ads.”
Having debated Democratic rival Bernie Sanders last night in Florida, Clinton herself is expected back in the L.A. area tomorrow to attend the funeral of Nancy Reagan at the Reagan Library. No word if the candidate will get in a few meetings with deep pocket donors or visit another Shondaland set. We do know that Clinton will be here again on March 24 for a trio of fundraisers, including one hosted by ICM Partner’s Chris Silbermann and spouse Julia Franz. George Clooney is also planning a Clinton event, though no date has been locked in for that yet.
