The Muppets co-executive producer Gregg Mettler has been tapped as showrunner on Toast, ABC’s hybrid comedy pilot from Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers’ Shondaland as well as actors and long-time friends Scott Foley and Greg Grunberg.
Written by Foley and Grunberg and directed by Gail Mancuso, Toast revolves around engaged couple Max and Paige who, over their wedding rehearsal dinner, have their eclectic family and friends give toasts recalling anecdotes about the couple — but flashbacks reveal that the toasts don’t always get it right, as we watch the true story of their complicated, funny and relatable road to marriage.
That ’70s Show alum Mettler will serve as an executive producer alongside Foley, Grunberg, Rhimes, Beers and Mancuso for ABC Studios. The writer-producer, whose series credits also include ABC/20th TV comedy How To Live With Your Parents and ABC/TBS/ABC Studios’ Cougar Town, is repped by UTA and attorney Ken Richman at Hansen Jacobson.
