The Stateside launch of Season 2 of period crime series Grantchester hits Masterpiece on PBS on March 27. In the meantime, here’s James Norton’s sleuthing vicar Sidney Chambers fresh from a swim to whet viewer appetites (see clip above). The drama returns to the UK’s ITV on Wednesday for a six episode run that picks up a year after the last concluded. Sidney and Police Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green) are back and having to face up to the consequences of becoming such an accomplished crime-fighting duo.
Sidney is a whiskey-drinking, jazz-loving, crime-fighting clergyman, and Geordie his partner in crime. Per the clip above, the pair isn’t only gearing up for more mystery solving as Geordie is tasked with finding Sidney a mate before he becomes too paunchy and hirsute. There are also more serious issues at hand in the first episode as Sidney is suspected of murder. But then so are a fellow priest, a photographer, and a classmate of the victim.

Also in the cast are Tessa Peake-Jones, Morven Christie, Kacey Ainsworth and Al Weaver. Lead writer is Daisy Coulam with John Jackson (Being Human) and Joshua St Johnston (The Enfield Haunting) also scripting.
Produced by Lovely Day, the first season of Grantchester averaged 6.6M viewers and a 24 share on ITV; Masterpiece is co-producer. PBS last summer pacted with Amazon to make Prime the exclusive subscription streaming home for the detective drama. It moves there after the Masterpiece run.
