Having conquered Cuba last spring, TBS’ Conan of course is heading to South Korea for a special extended episode set to premiere on Saturday, April 9.
Today’s announcement is not entirely surprising, with host Conan O’Brien having caused a stir recently when he showed up in the country with Steven Yuen, the Korean-American actor who stars on The Walking Dead. The episode will show them explore the Korean Demilitarized Zone and Joint Security Area. They’ll also team with singing star J.Y. Park to film a K-Pop music video.
This marks O’Brien’s fifth road trip in the past 12 months with Conan – out-of-studio episodes being one of his strong suits. Last spring, he made headlines as the first American late-night host to shoot in Cuba in more than 50 years, quietly slipping into the country for a long weekend around the time President Obama began making his moves to normalize relations with the island country.
In November, Conan became the first American late-night personality ever to host a show from Armenia. In January, he joined First Lady Michelle Obama at the U.S. Air Force Base in Doha, Qatar, to perform for the troops stationed overseas. And yes, we’re also filing under Conan’s Trips to Foreign Lands his week of shows from San Diego during Comic-Con.
