Nearly 6 million people watched the Univision Democratic Primary Debate, simulcast on CNN last night, at which Hillary Clinton got asked by the moderator whose daughter is working for Clinton’s campaign if she’d withdraw from the race if indicated, Clinton and Bernie Sanders defied instructions to call Donald Trump “racist,” and Sanders dared to wear a brown suit.
More people watched Univision’s debate on CNN than on Univision. The Spanish-language network averaged 2.006 million viewers; CNN clocked 3.942M. In the news demo, Univision registered 966K viewers; CNN nabbed 1.343 million.
CNN’s portion of the total-viewer haul also was good enough to beat Fox News Channel’s primetime stacking of GOP candidate interviews.
In primetime, 8-11 PM, CNN averaged 3.2M total viewers, to FNC’s 2.9M and MSNBC’s 791k. Among adults 25-54, CNN had 1.1M million viewers, besting FNC’s 590K and MSNBC’s 212K.
