In another case of ABC promoting within, new ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey has named Brian Morewitz to replace her as the new head of the network’s drama department. Morewitz, most recently VP, Drama Development, has been upped to SVP, charged with overseeing the development and production of all drama pilots and the launch of new drama series for ABC Entertainment. He will continue to report to Dungey.
The appointment of ABC veteran Morewitz comes less than a month after Dungey was named president of ABC Entertainment, replacing Paul Lee. It provides continuity, as Morewitz had been a key member of Dungey’s drama team that developed the current roster of ABC pilots. The move is not surprising. In one of Dungey’s first interviews days after her promotion, I asked her whether she would name one of her lieutenants as her replacement. “There is a lot of talent at ABC and in our industry,” she said.

Morewitz had been VP Drama Development, ABC Entertainment, since November 2004. He has developed and overseen the series Quantico, American Crime, Castle, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Revenge, Nashville and Brothers & Sisters.
Morewitz came to ABC from the feature world. He was SVP, Escape Artists, where he helped develop feature films, including Knowing, starring Nicolas Cage, and S.W.A.T, and held other development positions within the motion picture industry.
