A couple of key lines from the new trailer for Whiskey Tango Foxtrot: “Everyone needs to shake up their life now and then.” — Reporter Tina Fey. “This is an extreme environment.” — Afghanistan-based U.S. military man Billy Bob Thornton. Such is the setup for the new film from Crazy Stupid Love directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa based on the book The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days In Afghanistan And Pakistan by Kim Barker.
Fey plays the author, a TV reporter who volunteers to be a war correspondent during Operation Enduring Freedom despite a decided lack of experience. The ensuing fish-out-of-water tale has her bonding with a British colleague (Margot Robbie), flirting with a Scottish one (Martin Freeman) and learning the ropes from Thornton. And firing automatic weapons.
Christopher Abbott, Alfred Molina, Nicholas Braun, and Sheila Vand co-star in the pic written by Fey’s regular collaborator Robert Carlock. It is produced by Lorne Michaels, Ian Bryce and Fey. Paramount deploys Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (get it?) in theaters on March 4. As you watch the trailer above, beware of a few NSFW words. Then tell us what you think.
