UPDATE with more news: Scott Mann (Heist) has been attached to direct Final Score, an action thriller set during a major sporting event when the stadium is seized by a group of heavily armed criminals demanding ransom. An ex-soldier must save the 35,000 in the crowd — one of which is the daughter of his fallen comrade. The script is from the Brothers Lynch. Highland Film Group will executive producer and handle international sales rights at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin. Signature Entertainment and the Fyzz Facility will produce and Signature is eyeing a 2017 release in the UK. The film is casting now ahead of a summer/fall start date. Shooting will take place at London’s Upton Park Stadium, the home of West Ham United of the English Premier League soccer club for over 100 years. The team is moving after the current season, and the production will take over.

Mister Smith Entertainment has boarded international sales on Broad Green Pictures’ Ain’t No Half Steppin’, which is being directed by Drumline helmer Charles Stone from Chuck Hayward’s script. It centers on Jamilah, an ambitious black sorority girl who, in order to get admitted to the law school of her dreams, agrees to cross culture lines and teach the exclusive art of black Greek stepping to a band of wild, Kardashian-obsessed white sorority girls whose charter is about to be revoked. Matt Alvarez, Lena Waithe and Benjamin Cory Jones are producing. No cast yet but shooting is set to begin in April. Sales kick off at EFM.
13 Films has come on board to handle international rights outside of Greece to Worlds Apart, a romantic drama starring JK Simmons. Gersh is handling U.S. rights and sales are commencing at EFM this month. Christopher Papakaliatis wrote and directed the Greece-set pic, which is made up of three separate narratives, each following a love story between a foreigner and a local.
Entertainment One-run Seville International has acquired worldwide sales rights outside North America to Maggie Greenwald’s Sophie And The Rising Sun, which just played at Sundance. Sales will commence at EFM. The pic, adapted from Augusta Trobaugh’s novel, follows Sophie (Julianne Nicholson), whose life is transformed when an Asian man (Takashi Yamaguchi) arrives under mysterious circumstances. Their love affair becomes the lightning rod for long-buried conflicts that erupt in bigotry and violence.
Myriad Pictures will handle international sales (excluding Spain/Andorra, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Latin America and the U.S.) on Altamira, starring Antonio Banderas, Rupert Everett, Golshifteh Farahani and Pierre Niney. It will introduce the Spain-shot English-language film to buyers at EFM with exclusive first-look footage. Altamira is helmed by Hugh Hudson, an Oscar nominee for Chariots Of Fire, from a script by Olivia Hetreed and José Luis López-Linares.
