A four-part adaptation of short stories penned by Neil Gaiman, Likely Stories will be produced by Sid Gentle Films for Sky Arts. Nick Cave 20,000 Days On Earth helmers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard are directing. Jarvis Cocker is scoring the half hours which star George MacKay (Pride), Tom Hughes (The Game), Johnny Vegas (Moone Boy), Kenneth Cranham (Maleficent) and Rita Tushingham (Doctor Zhivago).
Set in London, the “dark and strange” stories center on the act of storytelling in a world Gaiman has created that shifts between reality and fantasy with common themes of human consumption, destructive obsession and psychological cannibalism.
The four stories are titled Foreign Parts; Feeders & Eaters; Closing Time and Looking For The Girl. The first three are adapted by Kevin Lehane and the last by Forsyth and Pollard.
Monica Dolan, Paul Ritter, Simon Manyonda, Johann Myers and Montserrat Lombard round out the ensemble cast. The busy Gaiman will also appear in each episode with subtle nods to his wider work. His acclaimed contemporary fantasy novel American Gods is currently being adapted for Starz with Bryan Fuller and Michael Green writing, showrunning and exec producing. Fox series Lucifer, based on his Sandman character, debuted in January.
Executive producers on Likely Stories are Sally Woodward Gentle, Lee Morris and Gaiman. Sky Vision will handle international distribution.
