Fortissimo Films said today it has inked a multi-picture sales deal with Chinese multi-hyphenate Zhang Wei that includes his first two films, Factory Boss and Destiny. The deal will begin in time for Berlin. An entrepreneur-turned-filmmaker, Zhang is a graduate of the acclaimed Beijing Film Academy. His banner Huahao Film & Media has become known for presenting candid visions of marginalized Chinese lives through his films. Factory Boss tells the tragic story of factory owner Lin Dalin, who desperately accepts an order from an American conglomerate with a tiny profit margin to save his business; and Destiny, which depicts an autistic boy’s fight for the right to an education. Both parties look to continue the relationship through Zhang’s developing career.
He is currently in post for The Sound Of A Dream, which follows the inspirational story of four visually impaired Tibetan children. The deal was negotiated by Fortissimo chairman Michael J. Werner together with Zhang and Beijing-based Lightshades Peter Donner.
