Amy Poehler is taking on a double behind-the-camera duty on the NBC single-camera comedy pilot from her company Paper Kite Prods. Poehler has signed on to direct the pilot, which she also executive produces.
Written by Charlie Grandy, the untitled pilot (aka Dumb Prince) centers on a reluctant Crown Prince. After years of partying that earned him the “black sheep” label, Karl returns home to compete with his brother for the family throne. Poehler and Brooke Posch’s Paper Kite Prods. and 3 Arts produce with Universal TV; Grandy and Poehler executive produce with Posch and Dave Becky.
On the TV side, Paper Kite is also behind Comedy Central’s Broad City, which begins its third season later this month and Hulu’s Difficult People, recently renewed for a second season
This marks the pilot directing debut of Poehler who previously helmed episodes of Broad City and her NBC comedy series Parks And Recreation. She and Paper Kite are repped by WME, 3 Arts and attorney Warren Dern.
