We have a winner of Project Greenlight Digital Studios’ #GetTheGreenLight web series contest. #Josh directors Joshua Jean-Baptiste and Edson Jean will receive $25,000 and a development deal with the studio. Their Miami-set film centers on a chaste, digitally dependent twentysomething who is forced to coexist with his promiscuous, problematic cousin. Watch the filmmakers’ winning pitch above.
“Project Greenlight Digital Studios was created in part to help find exceptional filmmaking talent by digging deep into communities we couldn’t access before,” said Brittany Turner, VP Digital Video at Adaptive Studios, which creates multiplatform content culled from previously abandoned IP. “#Josh is a perfect example of this, and we are thrilled to be able to share the high-quality content that Joshua and Edson created and to expose it to a wider audience.”
Jean wrote, directed and starred in 2013’s The Adventures of Edson Jean, which aired on HBO. He also has acted in HBO’s Ballers, Netflix’s Bloodline and the feature Moonlight. Jean-Baptiste appeared in The Adventures of Edson and began his writing career producing shows in local theaters. Both filmmakers are Haitian-Americans.
Said Jean-Baptiste and Jean: “This entire #GetTheGreenlight process has been a roller coaster of emotions, or as our fellow Haitians would say: mezami! … After receiving an unprecedented amount of support from our community, we are honored to share a story set in Miami that isn’t coated in glitz or glamour.”
