EXCLUSIVE: Peter Berg’s Film 44 has brought in former Weinstein Co. exec John Logan Pierson to become the new VP of Features. He previously served as Director, Film & Television Production at TWC where he most recently oversaw production of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword Of Destiny. That film, which is directed by Chinese helmer Woo-Ping Yuen, will premiere on Netflix and in Imax theaters in February.

“This kid is on point. He’s a beast,” said Berg. “We’ll all be working for him in short time.” Coming up from Film 44 is Deep Water Horizon starring Kurt Russell and Berg’s Lone Survivor star Mark Wahlberg who also stars in the company’s Patriot’s Day — the film about the Boston Marathon bombing (also directed by Berg) for CBS Films. Also in the works through Film 44 is a documentary about music superstar Rihanna and how she became such a success story.

Not only did Pierson work at TWC, but he also had stints at Scott Rudin Productions and Joan Scott Management. But he started his professional career as the co-founder of the branded content/music video production company 20/20 Pictures which served such commercial clients as Adidas Outdoor, MTV, and Wenner Media.

Pierson also produced the documentary Hard Rock Havana (executive produced by Alex Gibney) and that will premiere on the festival circuit this year.

Under the Film 44 banner, Berg produced the successful NBC series, Friday Night Lights, based on his 2004 film as well as the box office hit Lone Survivor for Universal and the documentary series for HBO, On Freddie Roach and State Of Play as well as the scripted series The Leftovers.
