Note to exasperated parents whose kids spend all day playing video games and claim it’s good for them: The digital docuseries about professional Mortal Kombat players is coming to broadcast TV.
Well, part of it anyway. CW Seed today launched the five-episode Season 3 of Mortal Kombat X: Machinima’s Chasing The Cup, a web series that follows five of the world’s top-ranked players. The bigger news is that The CW will air the season finale as a one-hour primetime special on February 15.
Chasing The Cup follows dominant pro e-sports competitors in major tournaments. It looks at the players and personalities as they make personal sacrifices while they compete for the title and the right to be called the world’s best. The second season of the ESL Mortal Kombat X Pro League began November 1 and saw competitors from Europe and North America battle it out for their chance to win a piece of the $100,000 prize pool, and the title of World Champion. The Finals tournament took place over the weekend in Burbank.
