EXCLUSIVE: Megan Mullally has landed a role opposite Bryan Cranston and James Franco in Why Him, the Fox comedy from director and co-writer John Hamburg. She will play Barb Fleming, the wife of Cranston’s Ned.
In the film, a salt-of-the-earth Midwestern dad (Cranston) travels with his family to visit his daughter at college during the holidays only to discover that she’s dating a brash young Internet billionaire (Franco). Competition between the men ensues. Production begins next month in L.A. Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour are producing, with 21 Laps President Dan Levine overseeing for the production company and Jeremy Kramer for Fox. Ian Helfer co-wrote the film with Hamburg, whose scripting credits include Meet The Parents, Zoolander and I Love You, Man.
Will & Grace alumna Mullally plays a white supremacist in the new NBC series You, Me and the Apocalypse, which premieres January 28, and appears on the Adult Swim series Childrens Hospital. She also has a recurring voice role on Bob’s Burgers and recurred as Nick Offerman’s ex-wife on Parks And Recreation. Mullally and her real-life husband Offerman also did a comedy tour called Summer of 69: No Apostrophe, and she appeared in It’s Only A Play on Broadway last season.
