John Boyega, Room’s Brie Larson and Kingsman: The Secret Service‘s Taron Egerton are among the nominees for this year’s BAFTA Rising Star Award. Also in the mix are Dakota Johnson (Fifty Shades Of Grey) and Bel Powley (The Diary Of A Teenage Girl). The award, which has previously been won by the likes of Tom Hardy, James MacAvoy and Kristen Stewart, is voted on by the public. Jack O’Connell took it last year following his memorable performance in Yann Demange’s stunning feature directorial debut, ’71.
All the nominees have had breakout years, with Larson also expected to be in the mix for awards season for her devastating portrayal of a young mother protecting her five-year-old son in Lenny Abrahamson’s Room. Brit actor Boyega is currently starring in box office behemoth Star Wars: The Force Awakens while Egerton is set to reprise his star-making turn as a youthful secret agent in Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman sequel. He has also been tapped to don the iconic green hood in Lionsgate’s Robin Hood: Origins project with Peaky Blinders’ Otto Bathurst directing.
