Production recently wrapped on Breaking Brooklyn, a drama starring Louis Gossett Jr. as Miles Bryant, a dance teacher and former performer struggling to keep his family-owned theater alive. When he takes two talented homeless boys under his wing, they team up with his family to save the theater. The film includes tap dance styles of music along with soulful Broadway and contemporary hip hop. Breaking Brooklyn also stars Colin Critchley, Nathan Kress, Madeleine Mantock, Vondi Curtis-Hall, and Brian Tarantina. Directed by Paul Becker and written by Becker & Rory Owen Delaney, it’s produced by Donald Kushner, Elie Samaha and Missy Valdez. Gossett, who also recently wrapped production on Double Play, is repped by Michael Mann Management.
The Walking Dead alum Jay Huguley has joined the cast of Heart, Baby! The drama feature is based on the story of George Lee Martin, a convict who became infamous in the Tennessee prison system as an unbeatable boxer. When he is offered an opportunity at freedom in exchange for fighting for Team USA in the 1984 Olympic Games, he shocks everyone by saying no. Huguley will play Paul, a sadistic prison security officer who ends up as Martin’s nemesis. The Wire‘s Gbenga Akinnagbe stars as Martin. Angela Shelton wrote and is directing Heart, Baby, which is set to begin filming this month in New Orleans. A premiere during Sundance 2017 is planned. Huguley is repped by Prestige Talent Agency, Landrum Arts and Luber Roklin.
