Monster Hunt was a monster hit in China last year, managing to rake in $380.99M (2.428B yuan) in less than two months, edging out Furious 7 to become the highest grossing film ever at the Chinese box office. That’s an impressive feat by itself, but more important for the Middle Kingdom’s home-grown film industry is the fact that it’s the first Chinese-made film to become the country’s box office champ in the 21 years since China reopened its markets to foreign movies. And now, after a year of hearing about the hype second-hand, American audiences will finally get to see it for themselves when Monster Hunt hits U.S. theaters January 22. To prove it, North American distributor FilmRise has released a new trailer, and you can watch it here now.
A new poster has also been released. Check it out below.

Directed by Shrek franchise veteran Raman Hui and written by Alan Yuen, Monster Hunt is set in an ancient, mythical world where monsters rule the land and humans keep to their own kingdom. But when adorable baby monster Wuba is born to a human father and monster queen, mortals and creatures alike set out to capture the newborn, taking Wuba on an epic adventure. If it plays in your area, you might want to catch the Mandarin language cut, which has 13 more minutes of footage than the English dub.
