Carol star and double Oscar winner Cate Blanchett will receive the Lacoste Spotlight Award at the 18th Costume Designers Guild Awards. The honor goes to an actor whose talent and career personify an enduring commitment to excellence, including a special awareness of the role and importance of costume design. The guild noted her appreciation for the artistry of costume design and her collaboration with costume designers throughout her career.
Blanchett this year played evil stepmother Lady Tremaine in Disney’s lavish Cinderella, working closely with costume designer Sandy Powell and director Kenneth Branagh. She also was in the Rathergate pic Truth and is up next in Terrence Malick’s films Knight Of Cups and Voyage Of Time.
The CDG Awards are set for February 23 at the Beverly Hilton, where the guild is also honoring Quentin Tarantino as well as Ellen Mirojnick with a lifetime achievement award.
