“That was a lucky break,” explains Bryce Dallas Howard about her turn in the fourth highest grossing film of all-time ($1.67B) Jurassic World. The tentpole marked her return to feature acting after a four-year hiatus during which she had her second child. During that time off, Howard continued a passion of hers: directing short films. And for those not in the know, Howard has been directing shorts for the last 10 years, a total of 15 titles. She comes to Sundance with Solemates, a minute and six second love story between shoes. In this clip, she explains her process and short film side career. And yes, she’s prepping to direct a feature one day. Advice from dad Ron? “I show him cuts later on and he’s so chill. He’s not like ‘This is what you need to do!’ Before my first film, he told me (about the craft) ‘You’ll like it. It’s really easy.'” Up next for Howard is Disney’s reboot of Pete’s Dragon and the Matthew McConaughey film Gold. And of course, the Jurassic World sequel which still has yet to confirm its director.
