“Thanks for coming to our awesome time slot, the morning after the Golden Globe Awards,” Amazon chief Roy Price told bleary-eyed TV critics this morning at TCA in Pasadena.” To make up for it, we have a wall of donuts.”
“I want to say how proud we are of everyone behind Mozart In The Jungle and Transparent – five Globe noms and two wins last night. It’s gratifying” he said, noting it’s the second year in a row Amazon has taken the awards for TV comedy and comedy actor “so it was a good night.”
Under-the-radar Amazon comedy Mozart In The Jungle was one of the night’s big winners, snagging awards for best comedy series, and best actor for Gael Garcia Bernal – two derbies won last year by Amazon’s Transparent, which was nommed again in both categories as well as best supporting actress (Judith Light). While feting freshman series is nothing new for HFPA, some TV critics had considered the classical-music-meets-sexy-intrigue tale a puzzling nominee in the comedy series category. And most money had been on Aziz Ansari of Netflix’s new comedy Master Of None taking the comedy acting Globe.
“This is a great time to be a lover of television, and lover of stories and therefore a lover of life,” Price said happily, as he wrapped Amazon’s TCA time.
