Oscar nominee Toni Collette and Jason Patric have joined war drama The Yellow Birds for director Alexandre Moors (Blue Caprice) and Cinelou Films. The story follows two young soldiers (Alden Ehrenreich and Tye Sheridan) who become friends in boot camp. They vow to take care of each other, but it becomes increasingly difficult in wartime. Then the unthinkable happens. David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) wrote the script based on Kevin Powers’ novel.
Collette (Muriel’s Wedding, Krampus) plays the mother of a soldier who returns from war with a secret that has forever changed him. Patric (The Lost Boys, In the Valley of Elah) will play Capt. Anderson. They join Jennifer Aniston, who plays the younger boy’s mother, and Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) as Staff Sgt. Sterling, who takes the young soldiers under his wing.
