Writethru Wednesday, 9:18AM and 5:43 AM after Tuesday 11:19PM Post: Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ demolished another record Tuesday night. According to finals from Disney, its total gross rose to an estimated $600.9M on Tuesday after posting another $29.5M. The franchise fan favorite dropped a mere 6% from Monday. Hot on Avatar‘s tail to become the highest-grossing film of all time domestically, it is now the fastest film to reach $600M and, at this rate, should hit $700M this weekend and log fastest to that threshold as well.
Meanwhile, The Weinstein Co.’s Hateful Eight ran pre-shows at about 950 runs at 6 PM and 7 PM with a wider release today. In existing locales, it bagged $993K and then holstered another $600K in the previews. After grossing $1M on Monday, that brings the Quentin Tarantino film’s cume to $6.6M.
Hateful Eight will increase to 1,958 spots today, then will rise to 2,264 Thursday and 2,474 by Friday. It should land in the No. 3 spot behind The Force Awakens and Daddy’s Home (which is in 3,271 runs, about 800 more than the Tarantino movie).
