Shailene Woodley is expected to complete the triumvirate of killer moms in HBO’s upcoming Big Little Lies. The Divergent actress will join Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon in the David E. Kelley limited series. Kidman announced the casting today at India’s Hindustan Times Leadership Summit. HBO declined to confirm the casting but has been in talks with both Woodley and Laura Dern for the film.
Big Little Lies will be an adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s 2014 darkly comic novel about three women who meet as parents at a local school, and then become embroiled in one another’s secret (and often abusive) histories. Woodley will play Jane, a single mom whose troubled son is accused of bullying.
The book was optioned by Kidman’s Blossom Films and Witherspoon’s Pacific Standard. The two actresses will exec produce with Kelley.
