Relativity Studios has announced 2016 release dates for a quintet movies that some thought might never see the inside of a theater – at least under the Chapter 11’d company’s banner. Weeks after the Ryan Kavanaugh-led Relativity Media promised a seven-film slate over 18 months beginning in January, its film unit today dated five titles for next year: The Disappointments Room (March 25), Before I Wake (April 8), Kidnap (May 13), Masterminds (September 30) and The Strangers 2 (December 2).
Relativity vowed last month it would secure funding to release before 2017 the long-shelved Zach Galifianakis-Kristen Wiig pic Masterminds and Halle Berry starrer Kidnap, both of which had been under a legal cloud as a result of the Chapter 11 at one point. It also had its distribution sights on Before I Wake with Kate Bosworth and the DJ Caruso-helmed The Disappointments Room — all of which now have staked out release-date real estate.
The other three pics in the seven-film promise are Shot Caller, Secret Scripture and the Anthony Hopkins-Colin Farrell serial killer pic Solace. Strangers 2 had been in development.
