Slow news day + pregnant anchor = breaking news story. CNN’s Poppy Harlow fainted while anchoring this morning; Harlow’s pass-out was not seen on camera because CNN was showing viewers results of a new CNN/ORC poll (FYI, 74% of Americans polled are not happy with “how things are going with war on terrorism”). But viewers did hear Harlow’s voice suddenly slow down as she slurred a couple words before she stopped speaking altogether. The network quickly cut to commercial.
Reporters Who Cover Television slapped up posts on the incident – because good video is a terrible thing to waste – which, depending on the male reporter doing the reporting was either “rather odd” (Mediaite), “shocking” (Daily News, Radar), or just another case of “Mondays, amirite” (Gawker), etc.
Harlow came back on air to say she was OK, and later tweeted the facts of life to TRWCT:
Late last month, TVNewser broke the story that Harlow was then five months pregnant, expecting her first child, a girl, with husband Sinisa Babcic; the baby is due this spring, TVNewser calculated.
