Publisher HarperCollins and digital TV studio Insurrection Media are joining forces for a strategic framework to option and develop science fiction, dramatic and comedic literature for scripted series with digital, television and other distribution platforms in mind. The partnership’s first planned project is to adapt Mila 2.0, the young adult trilogy written by Debra Driza and published by HarperCollins Children imprint Katherine Tegen Books, for multiple digital television series.
Echoing themes explored in the Jason Bourne series as well as the Jenna Fox Chronicles, Mila 2.0 follows a young woman grappling with the recent death of her husband who, unable to remember the details of her past, discovers she is actually an experimental android. Forced on the run along with the woman she knows as her “mother,” she must learn the truth about who she is while protecting those she cares about. The first novel in the series, Mila 2.0 was published in 2013 with the sequel, MILA 2.0: Renegade, published in 2014. The series’ third novel, Mila 2.0: Redemption, will be released in April. HarperCollins And Insurrection are also in the process of exploring other projects after Mila 2.0.
Insurrection has a multi-year exclusive comedy pod deal with Abominable Pictures founder and senior entertainment executive Jonathan Sterm and producer Keith Quinn (Paramount Digital, Live Planet), and a multi-year science fiction production partnership with Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead, and Skybound Entertainment’s David Alpert.
