Fox has commissioned Eye2Eye Media’s Dutch live TV event The Passion to air March 20 next year. The annual multimedia project, centred around the last hours of Jesus Christ, is also in development with German and Norwegian broadcasters. The show first aired in the Netherlands in 2011, becoming the most successful live storytelling event ever on Dutch TV. Its audience share has risen from 17.4% in 2011 to 46.2% this year.
Well-known singers, actors and celebrities come together for the format to re-enact key moments in the Passion across multiple locations while simultaneously a 1000-strong public procession takes place through the city following a giant lit cross. The climax sees the conviction and death of Jesus played out in fronts of thousands of spectators and millions back at home watching.
