Fox has dropped the first trailer for director Dexter Fletcher’s Eddie The Eagle, the feel-good drama about Michael “Eddie” Edwards, Britain’s first ski jumper to enter the Winter Olympics. From the producing team behind Kingsman: The Secret Service, the film stars Kingsman‘s Taron Egerton as Eddie with Hugh Jackman as his rebellious coach, Bronson Peary. Christopher Walken also stars.
The underdog story is inspired by Edwards’ real-life plight. Dreaming of Olympic glory from a young age, but consistently picked last for sports by his classmates, Eddie never got to prove himself as a child, the trailer above reveals. Improbably taking up ski jumping several years later, he also takes on an establishment which doesn’t want him representing Britain at the big show. Ultimately, he wins the hearts of sports fans around the world by making a historic showing at the 1988 Calgary winter games.
Sean Macaulay and Simon Kelton penned the script. Producers are Matthew Vaughn, Adam Bohling, David Reid, Rupert Maconick and Valerie Van Galder. Fox has a February 26 domestic release set, with Lionsgate UK releasing on April 1.
