Fox has commissioned a presentation for Botcop, an animated comedy from up-and-coming writers Itai Grunfeld & Geoff Barbanell and executive producer Tracy Katsky. This marks the first production order for Katsky under her pod deal with Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. It also marks her return to Fox where she did a stint as head of comedy.
In 1985, Botcop was the cutting edge of law enforcement technology. But today, this half man, half robot’s dial-up internet and fax machine are as irrelevant as he is. Fired from the LAPD, he takes a minimum wage job as a guard in a wealthy gated community and moves in with his patrol partner, a single Dad in need of help, even if it’s from an arrogant cyborg unaware his best days are behind him.
Kaplan also executive produces the project, which was originally sold to Fox as a live-action pitch. After the script was delivered, the network asked for it to be rewritten as an animated comedy, leading to the presentation order. The animation will be handled by Bento Box Entertainment (Bob’s Burgers).
Grunfeld and Barbanell are repped by Gersh and Robby Kotch.
