Chalk up another win for Mad Max: Fury Road. George Miller’s franchise reboot had been picking up critics prizes in the past few weeks and can now add an Australian Oscar to the mantle. The AACTA Awards, Oz’s equivalent to the Oscars, were held tonight in Sydney where Miller took Best Director and Best Film.
This has been a record-breaking year at the box office for local movies with more than $85M to date. Late entry, The Dressmaker, has been a sleeper hit. It scooped three acting prizes including for lead Kate Winslet. See below for the full list of film winners:
