Disney has dropped a new trailer for disaster-at-sea pic The Finest Hours. The latest version focuses on more of the action on board the ill-fated ships and the efforts by first assistant engineer Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck), who realizes it’s up to him to get his frightened crew to work together if they are to ride out one of the worst storms that ever hit the East Coast.
Based on the best-selling book by Casey Sherman and Michael J. Tougias, the Craig Gillespie-helmed 3D drama chronicles the massive rescue mission launched when a pair of oil tankers split in two near Cape Cod in 1952. Chris Pine stars as Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber, who sets off in the rescue mission in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little, if any, means of navigation, facing frigid temperatures, 60-foot waves and hurricane-force winds.
Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger and John Ortiz co-star. Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson wrote the initial draft of the screenplay, and Scott Silver wrote the final version. Jim Whitaker and Dorothy Aufiero produced and Doug Merrifield exec produced. The Finest Hours blows into U.S. theaters on January 29 in Digital3D and Imax 3D.
