NBC has set January premiere dates for new comedy series Telenovela, which is reverting to its original name after being titled Hot & Bothered for the past few months, and Superstore. Once again the network will use its top reality series The Voice to get sampling for the two newbies.
Ahead of Telenovela and Superstore’s Monday January 4 premieres, each will air back-to-back original episodes behind Monday’s The Voice from 10-11 PM on November 30 (Superstore) and December 7 (Telenovela). They will succeed in the timeslot of new drama Blindspot, which will have aired its fall finale. The Voice will wrap its season the week of December 14.
NBC recently trimmed the orders for both Telenovela and Superstore from 13 to 11 episodes. Given their regular Monday time slots, 8 PM (Superstore) and 8:30 PM (Telenovela), the comedies will serve as bridge between the two cycles of The Voice, which explains the network’s need for fewer episodes. It is unclear yet what will air in the Monday 9 PM hour while The Voice is on hiatus.
NBC plans to use the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and live musical The Wiz Live! (December 3) to promote the comedy previews. Telenovela stars and is produced Eva Longoria, while Superstore is toplined by America Ferrera.
