SPOILER ALERT: This story contains details about the December 17 episode of The Big Bang Theory.
If you are wondering why CBS’ Big Bang Theory and ShAmy are suddenly trending on social media, it is because the hit CBS series on Tuesday night taped a key episode, slated to air on Dec. 17, Big Bang‘s last original before the holiday break.
After five seasons of will-they-or-won’t-they, America’s favorite nerdy couple, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) finally consummated their relationship in front of a live studio audience tonight. Given the proliferation of social media, it was unlikely that the producers could keep the development a secret until the episode’s air date, so they confirmed it tonight.

“After over five years of dating, we felt the time was right for Sheldon and Amy to finally consummate their relationship, and we’re so excited for the audience to see the journey over the next several episodes,” executive producer/showrunner Steve Molaro said in a statement.
After a lengthy platonic and scientific courtship, Amy and Sheldon recently broke up. Molaro would not comment whether or not the two have rekindled their relationship though there had been indication about that possibility in the most recent episodes to air.
