Sundance Selects has acquired Erika Frankel’s documentary King Georges, a profile of the rise (and decline?) of famed chef Georges Perrier and his iconic Philadelphia French restaurant Le Bec-Fin. A staple to French chefs as much as the leek, Perrier pulled back on selling the restaurant in 2010 and instead attempted to reinvent it by hiring a new protégé, Chef Nicholas Elmi (the Top Chef winner from Season 11), and the documentary captures his troubles passing the reins.
The docu, which features the likes of Daniel Boulud, Thomas Keller and Eric Ripert, is screening tonight at DOC NYC, and Selects plans a Febraury 26, 2016 release.
Submarine negotiated the deal with Sundance Selects on behalf of the filmmakers.
