EXCLUSIVE: Jennifer Beals has landed co-starring role opposite Zoey Deutch in director Ry Russo-Young’s Before I Fall, the adaptation of Lauren Oliver’s YA novel that’s being put together by Awesomeness Films. Shooting is set to start this month and Good Universe is handling international sales at this week’s American Film Market.
Deutch stars as Samantha Kingston, a high school senior who has it all: beautiful, with a great boyfriend and amazing best friends. But she finds that she may be living the last day of her life over and over until she gets it right. Beals will play Samantha’s happily married, good-humored and down-to-earth mom who puts up with some of Sam’s peccadilloes but draws the line when she becomes uncharacteristically hostile.
Maria Maggenti’s original script made the Black List, and revisions are by Gina Prince-Bythewood. Awesomeness Films’ Brian Robbins and Matt Kaplan are producing along with Jon Shestack.
Beals most recently starred on TNT’s Proof and the indie feature Cinemanovels which bowed this fall at Toronto. She is repped by APA and Felker Toczek.
