After a year playing comedic foil and villain, master head-butter Jason Statham is returning to the role of action hero, and has signed on to play the lead in an upcoming, still-untitled action thriller written by Kurt Wimmer, set to begin filming in fall 2016.
The film will see Statham as an ex-pat Brit living in Hong Kong, who winds up going on the run with a high-level Chinese intelligence agent in order to solve a kidnapping that has potentially global implications. The film will be produced by longtime Statham collaborator Steven Chasman (The Bank Job, The Transporter 1, 2 & 3) of Current Entertainment, along with Gongming Cai and Julien Favre of Road Pictures. It will be a joint production of Chasman and Statham’s SJ Pictures and Road Pictures, and will be shot on location in China and Europe.
Statham was most recently seen opposite Melissa McCarthy in the comedy Spy, and as the lead villain in Fast And Furious 7. In addition to The Bank Job and the Transporter series, his credits include The Expendables series, Parker and The Italian Job among others.
He’s repped by CAA and Current Entertainment.
