It’s taking all my willpower not to tell you more tell you more Grease puns than you need to set up these first-look images from Fox’s upcoming musical event Grease Live. There are worse things I could do, I suppose. Sorry. Anyway, below, see the first images of Julianne Hough as Sandy, Aaron Tveit as Danny Zuko, and Vanessa Hudgens as Rizzo.
The takeaway is that despite the fact that the production is being generally described as based on the original musical, it’s abundantly clear that primary inspiration comes from the 1978 film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. Interestingly, Tveit looks a lot like Jeff Conaway, who did spend some time as Danny Zuko on Broadway (following role-originator Barry Bostwick) but went on to play Zuko’s best friend Kenickie in the movie.

The ensemble cast also includes Carlos PenaVega (Kenickie), Keke Palmer (Marty), Carly Rae Jepsen (Pink Lady Frenchy) and Ana Gasteyer (Principal McGee). Directed by Tommy Kail and Alex Rudzinski, Grease Live will air January 31 on Fox.
