Warner Bros has found its female lead for Death Note, the adaptation of the Japanese manga series. Margaret Qualley is in negotiations for the role opposite male lead opposite Nat Wolff.
The story follows a student who, after discovering a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone by writing the victim’s name, attempts to cleanse the world of evil by using the book. Adam Wingard is directing with a script by Jeremy Slater (Fantastic Four). Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jason Hoffs and Masi Oka are producing, with Doug Davison and Brian Witten executive producing.
Qualley’s credits include HBO’s The Leftovers and the upcoming feature The Nice Guys.
